Facebook and other social networking sites are increasingly being accepted as a valuable means of communicating with consumers, it has been suggested.
WorkLight, an enterprise firm, says that recent data from Nielsen Online confirms the case for embracing such communications tools.
The data from the internet research company established that more than three out of five (63 per cent) UK adults visited one of the top ten social media sites during January, representatives of PR companies may be interested to read.
David Lavenda, WorkLight's vice-president of marketing and product strategy, states: "This is 21 per cent higher than the 17.1 million recorded a year earlier."
Those looking for online PR opportunities should note that YouTube was identified as the most popular social networking site, overtaking Wikipedia, according to the Guardian.
Wikipedia was visited by 9.6 million unique users in the UK in January, while Facebook fielded 8.5 million.
