Blackpool event management companies call for investment
Wednesday 20th of February 2008
Event management companies in Blackpool are urging the government to sanction the development of a conference centre in the town.
It is expected that the establishment of upgraded facilities in competing town Southport will impact upon the event management industry.
Chief executive of ReBlackpool Doug Garrett told the Blackpool Gazette: "A conference site is important to Blackpool and there will be meetings taking place in the next two weeks which should determine where we stand on the future of such a facility."
Jacqui Morris, secretary of StayBlackpool, added that as a conference destination the town had much to offer business travellers and event management companies, but that without a dedicated venue organisers might look elsewhere.
New regeneration funding is expected to be found for Blackpool when a government-led taskforce announces its findings on the resort's future in the coming months.
Earlier this month Builder and Engineer reported that Allenbuild had commenced construction on an event management companies' facility in Southport as part of regeneration of the Southport Theatre and Floral Hall.
