Cleaning firm produce MRSA reducing technology
Thursday 13th of December 2007
EcoQuest International have produced a new substance which is set to be used in a range of cleaning products, reducing exposure to bacteria and viruses - including MRSA.
The American company enlisted the help of NASA to develop the ActivePure product, which is set to be implemented in products for use in schools, restaurants and nursing homes, with the substance likely to be integrated into a range of cleaning products in the UK in the near future.
Dr James Marsden, from Kansas State University, revealed that the substance would be used on hygienic services to cut contamination risks.
He said: "The use of ActivePure can reduce exposure by inactivating a majority of harmful bacteria, viruses and mould from surfaces in the protected area.
"In combination with good hygiene practices, such as hand washing, a reduction in bacteria and viruses on environmental surfaces could reduce the risk of infections," he added.
