International meetings set for increase
Wednesday 12th of December 2007
International meetings and business tourism could be set for a surge in popularity - if the attendance at the EIBTM 2007 industry conference is taken as a barometer.
The conference attracted around 6,900 guests over three days, which represents an increase in 20 per cent from the 2006 event.
Paul Kennedy, MBE, group exhibition director at Reed Travel Exhibitions, revealed that the success of the conference was due to the lure of the attending businesses.
He said: "To see the number of business appointments already planned prior to the event hitting a record of 41,500 plus we knew that this year's show was set to be very busy, but we could not have predicted the huge increase in business opportunities for everyone with more than 6,900 people attending over the three days."
Meanwhile, according to research by Savillls, the conference sector is now worth £15 billion, with its value set to continue to climb.
